What are you most excited about this coming year?
“Getting to meet so many different kinds of people from so many different places!”
Malcolm Brown |Akron, OH
Gordon Scholar
What opportunity are you excited about being involved in?
“I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity to study abroad in Spain. I developed a deep appreciation for Spanish culture thanks to my high school Spanish teacher, and I’m eager to further immerse myself in it. My goal is to achieve fluency in the language during my time there.”

Kat Dobrosky | Raleigh, NC
Stamps Scholar
What is an interesting fact about you?
“I have a diverse and fascinating heritage! By blood, I am half Korean, with the other half a blend of Irish, German, and West Slavic roots. I speak Russian, German, and English though. My mother grew up in Uzbekistan, my father in Pennsylvania, and I was born in Germany. Recently, I’ve felt a strong urge to explore my heritage and ethnic background to gain a deeper understanding of my identity.”
Miriam Fabrycky | Fairfax, VA & Copenhagen, Denmark
Stamps Scholar
What is your favorite book?
“My favorite book is A Wrinkle in Time. I admire Madeleine L’Engle so much and the story and its characters are equal parts enchanting, cozy, brilliant, and thrilling!”

James Hendrix | Lubbock, TX
Stamps Scholar
What are you most excited about this coming year?
“Being a part of the scholars and greater Wake Forest community. Wake’s commitment to embodying Pro Humanitate aligns with my values and speaks volumes to the university’s and its population’s character.”
Ella Jones | Spencer, NC
Stamps Scholar
Do you have a favorite memory of being at Wake?
“Lovefeast is very easily my favorite memory at Wake thus far. I have volunteered as a “Deiner” both my freshman and sophomore year and have loved being on the behind-the-scenes side of something so poignant and sentimental. Handing out buns and coffee to so many familiar faces at the close of the semester is such a peaceful note to end on.“

Owais Kamran | Harrisburg, NC
Stamps Scholar
What’s something you can’t leave home without?
“I’m really passionate about skill toys. I love the challenge of learning something new and the feeling of accomplishment when I finally nail a trick. Their portability is perfect for idle moments or just helping me focus and de-stress. So I always have something with me to practice, whether it’s a pen mod for pen spinning, a balisong, yo-yos, or Rubiks Cubes for speedcubing.”
Carlton Kimani | Charlotte, NC
Gordon Scholar
What are you most excited about this coming year?
“This upcoming year, I am most excited about getting to explore the diversity in student life at Wake Forest, and make new connections and friendships that hopefully will last beyond my four years here at WFU. I also look forward to attending the sporting events–especially the football games–and meeting other students in the student section that share my passion for sports!“

Reese Lile | Lexington, KY
Graylyn Scholar
What are you most excited about this coming year?
“I cannot wait to find out what kinds of communities await me at Wake Forest. I am excited to explore the many community service groups, sports teams, social justice discussions, and other community-building groups that exist both on-campus and in the greater Winston-Salem area.”
Fred Lin | Dalian, China
Stamps Scholar
What club have you enjoyed being a part of?
“Club Rowing and Japanese Studies Club. Club Rowing enables me to enjoy the view at the Salem Lake, and it is also a great relaxing exercise! Japanese Studies Club is a great opportunity for me to meet other Japanese language learners and practice my Japanese skills while getting to know more about Japanese culture.”

Joe McDonnell | Ridgewood, NJ
Stamps Scholar
What has been your favorite class at Wake?
“The best class I have taken so far at Wake was Geopolitics of James Bond with Dr. Brister. An incredibly interesting and thorough politics FYS around a film series that I grew up watching with my dad.”
Kat Petty | Atlanta, GA
Reynolds Scholar
What is an interesting fact about you?
“I’m really passionate about creative writing, and have been working on writing a high fantasy trilogy for the past few years. I’m fascinated by the macabre and psychology, specifically how trauma shapes people and what drives people to do “evil” or amoral things, so I delve into those themes pretty extensively throughout my writing. My novel is full of magic, extensive worldbuilding, morally gray characters, and found family, and I’m always very happy to yap more about my silly characters or my latest funky magical creatures to anyone who’d like to listen 🙂“

Sophia Sanders | Long Beach, CA
Carswell Scholar
What’s something you can’t leave home without?
“I will certainly be packing my yoga mat! This is integral to my daily yoga practice which I plan to continue at Wake.”
Lily Scarlett | Raleigh, NC
Reynolds Scholar
What opportunity are you excited about being involved in?
“I am excited about Outdoor Pursuits, and hopeful to find an active run club! I love spending time outside, but much prefer to adventure with friends, so those things are right up my alley. I enjoy hiking, but I have never been backpacking or outdoor rock climbing. It’s my goal to try both of those things before I graduate.”
